Ulthera (HIFU)
Ultrasonic waves from
high-intensity focused
ultrasound (HIFU) works
on SMAS fascia to
powerfully lift up sagging
skin without cutting.
Recommended for those who
- Are concerned about sagging around the mouth, such as nasolabial lines
- Are concerned about a distorted face line or sagging cheeks
- Are concerned about sagging under the chin or double chin
- Feel their skin have lost its firmness
- Don’t want to have surgery, but want to improve the sagging skin
What is Ulthera?
Ulthera is a treatment method that uses continuous irradiation of “high-intensity focused ultrasound” called HIFU to promote collagen regeneration with self-healing power from thermal damage and improve sagging. It is highly safe as it has been approved by the US FDA, which is equivalent to Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare. Unlike facelift surgery using a scalpel, there is no long downtime or severe pain, and the lifting effect is immediate and lasts for about six months to a year.
Mechanism and effect
-
HIFU irradiation
Collagen inside the skin shrinks due to heat
-
cell repair
The body works to repair shrunken collagen and new collagen is produced.
-
Cell reconstruction
Increased collagen gives the skin firmness and elasticity
The cause of sagging is the weakening of the SMAS fascia located further below the subcutaneous fat. Ulthera’s high-intensity focused ultrasound can reach deep layers that normal lasers and radio waves (high frequency) cannot reach, so it can specifically stimulate the weakened SMAS fascia. When ultrasonic waves cause small points of thermal damage, a force that tries to heal the wound is activated, promoting collagen to repair and improve sagging skin.
